The Challenge

Surgical training is traditionally expensive, high-risk, and resource-intensive. Access to cadavers, operating theatres, and experienced mentors is limited—and making a mistake in the learning process can have serious consequences. SiliconTeb Surgical was created to eliminate these barriers by providing a virtual solution that would offer realistic, hands-on training without the risk, cost, or logistical constraints of real-world scenarios.

 

The challenge was twofold: first, to build high-fidelity simulations of real surgical procedures across various specialisations; and second, to develop a smart analytics system that could assess trainee performance with clinical accuracy. The platform had to balance medical precision with immersive, interactive design—making it both technically robust and user-friendly for medical students and professionals alike.

 

Our Approach

We collaborated closely with surgeons, educators, and subject matter experts to design and build 10 fully interactive surgical training modules using extended reality technology. Each module was crafted to reflect the exact tools, steps, techniques, and decisions a surgeon would face during real-life procedures. From orthopaedic operations to abdominal surgeries, every detail—from tissue response to instrument handling—was designed to mirror actual surgical conditions.

 

Leveraging XR (which blends virtual, augmented, and mixed reality), trainees could enter an immersive environment where they could interact with 3D anatomical models, perform guided procedures, and repeat sessions as needed—all without patient risk. Real-time feedback systems guided them through the process, helping build muscle memory and decision-making skills essential to real-world performance.

 

To take the platform to the next level, we integrated an AI-powered performance analytics engine. This system tracks every action taken by the trainee—from incision accuracy and timing to tool usage and procedural flow. After each session, trainees receive a detailed report breaking down their strengths and areas for improvement. For institutions, this data provides invaluable insight into trainee readiness and progress over time.

 

The Outcome
